Leadership Enrichment Academic Program is a new summer day camp created, organized and supervised by three USD 260 gifted facilitators. This program designed for identified gifted students, grades K-6, will meet the week of June 20th at Oaklawn Elementary/Carlton Learning Center. Small group activities will be run with the help of DMS and DHS gifted students.
Summer Space Camp
Join two Derby teachers for a five-day “out of this world” experience. Make your reservation now to bea crew member aboard the International Space Station, ISS. Come build the station from the ground up and learn about your role as part of the Summer Space Camp team. Be a team player as we build shuttle models, make space gear, and spend time training to be an astronaut. On the final day of camp we will “travel” to the ISS as well as launch a rocket built during camp.

Join us for summer baking classes! Each day, students will make a snack as well as a yummy dessert, or bread treat to take home. Learn how to use wet and dry measuring cups, use the mixer (with adult supervision) and combine ingredients. Have fun decorating a cake on the third day! Recipes will be bound into a cookbook to take home on the last day. Camps meet three mornings each week from 10:00-noon. Tuition for each camp is $150, which includes all supplies and materials. For students entering grades 6-10+, the Cosmosphere offers The Future Astronaut Training Program (FATP). Developed from authentic astronaut training, FATP motivates campers to seek careers in space-related industries by emphasizing the importance of teamwork, leadership and problem solving. Campers train in the Cosmosphere's camp simulators - the Space Shuttle simulator, 4-G centrifuge, multi-axis trainer, Soyuz trainer and stress simulator.
They also build and launch rockets, tour the Hall of Space Museum and explore the night sky. Advanced campers perform underwater scuba exercises, conduct ropes course team training and travel to Johnson Space Center in Houston and Kennedy Space Center in Florida. And for many campers, they also make life-long friends. FATP is an internationally-recognized camp that combines space science education with exciting astronaut-training activities.
The Karpov School of Chess – Lindsborg, KS
Located in Lindsborg, the school is offering a comprehensive summer camp experience. Grand Master Akobian will be the guest teacher for the camp. Featured activities include: chess mini tournaments recreation, and instruction. Lodging is available in the Bethany College dorms. She’s had students attend the camp for the last six years and has been the female counselor/instructor for the last two years.
Summer Enrichment Program – University of Northern Colorado
2011 marks the 34th year of SEP serving children and youth who are gifted, talented, and/or creative in a supportive academic and social setting. Designed for students entering 5th grade through 10th grade, this residential program offers high interest, hands-on, brains-on courses developed by specialists in gifted education and/or in specialized content areas. On the day they arrive, students select courses for their two week session. Courses meet daily during four 75 minute periods. After classes are done for the day participants choose a
variety of "options" varying from active sports and recreation, craft activities and time to visit with new and old friends. Students come to SEP from around 25 states, provinces and foreign countries. Dorm counselors who are college age and older supervise students during all hours that the students are not in class.
The Young Child Program serves children who are age 4 through those entering 4th grade. Addressing the early educational and social needs of children who are gifted, talented and/or creative children and parents select high interest courses that meet during four 40 minute periods each day. The specialists in gifted and talented education who teach the courses plan them to help develop and focus the natural curiosity and creativity of these students.
LEP accepts 50 high school students who are entering their junior and senior years. The focus is on understanding one's personal, unique gifts and talents, learning about leadership styles and developing traits and characteristics of leadership. They spend three periods a day on leadership topics and one period assisting an SEP teacher for a class of their choice. They assist SEP counselors with afternoon and evening options and teach mini-courses on the Saturday between the weeks of their session. Special activities, meals and creative options make LEP unique and memorable.
